SIDNEY POITIER – EST. $25 MILLION
Resilient and persistent to break the barriers were the traits that enveloped Sidney Poitier. He started his career in acting in an era where white men were superior. Although he was rejected, he tried again and was cast in the theater, and finally earned a spot. In the 1950 film, No Way Out, Poitier played a doctor who was discriminated against for his skin color. His performance led him to be cast one role after another.
In 1963’s Lilies of the Field, Poitier broke the barriers by becoming the first African American to win an Oscars for Best Actor. More projects came, including To Sir, with Love and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Because of his growing influence, his people in the Bahamas called him for public service, which he answered and later became a UN representative. President Barack Obama, in 2009, awarded him with a Presidential Medal of Freedom. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Poitier has a $25 million net worth and probably has the best roofing in Pleasantville, New York.
