PETER VAUGHAN

Wem-born Peter Vaughan was mostly known and loved for his portrayal of Master Aemon Targaryen in Game of Thrones and Grouty in Porridge. He had always been a character actor with participation in many stage productions, shows, and films. Peter was also a part of several radio programs, such as the BBC’s adaptation of Dorothy Sayer’s Busman’s Honeymoon. He also lent his voice to portray Superintendent Kirk.

He also voiced the famous character Denethor in another BBC radio production of The Lord of the Rings. Peter lived to the age of 93 before he died of natural causes on the 6th of December, 2016. The actor was partially blind before he died, but it did not stop him from being happy with his wife and kids. He was always prepared for the worst, as confirmed by his family and friends, who stated that he had his life insurance in place.
