GARRY SHANDLING

American stand-up comedian Garry Emmanuel Shandling, born on November 29, 1949, spent 30 years in his entertainment career, appearing in It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and The Larry Sanders Show. Sadly, in 2016, blood clots appeared throughout his body. He suffered from a degree of complication from hyperparathyroidism, a condition that occurs from a disorder either outside or within the parathyroid glands.

On March 24, 2016, Garry passed away at 66 years old. His death surprised all his fans and even his peers. It was devastating news because Garry had shown a lot of potential in the entertainment world. One of his legacies was to bestow $15.2 million to further medical research at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. This donation would endow and establish the Garry Shandling Pancreatic Diseases Fund, the Garry Shandling Infectious Diseases Innovation Fund, and the Garry Shandling Endocrine Surgery Research Fund. In his honor, UCLA has also built the Garry Shandling Learning Studio.
