ANDY WHITFIELD

Andy Whitfield’s transition to Australia transformed him from a construction laborer to an actor. He also tried the modeling industry, eventually making it as a fashion model. The star-in-the-making became part of more than 40 advertising campaigns in Asia and Europe. From that career move, he then went on to pursue being an actor, starring in Australian TV shows including All Saints, Packed to the Rafters, The Strip, and Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Once he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Whitfield commenced treatment. He was given a clean bill of health in June 2010, but a routine medical checkup three months later showed there was a relapse. He died from the disease on September 11, 2011. At the time, he was only 39. Andy’s struggle with the disease has been made into a documentary film titled Be Here Now. Though the actor is long gone, he certainly did not want to leave his family under the threat of debt of bankruptcy, so he left a trust fund for his loved ones.
