Shecky Greene

Shecky Greene was born Fred Sheldon Greene back in 1926. He is a legendary comedian who is best known for his shows in the top nightclubs in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shecky headline numerous performances and was one of the biggest stars during the 1950’s through the 1960’s. Aside from touring the nightclub circuit, the famed comedian also appeared in a number of films. He starred in Splash, Tony Rome, and History of the World. Shecky was also a popular TV talent, having guest-starred on shows such as Mad About You, Love, American Style, and Combat!

Outside of acting, his main passion was Thoroughbred racing. Chicago honors the comedian’s past time by holding a Shecky Greene Handicap race. To achieve the degree of success he has had over the years, Shecky had to overcome plenty of personal issues. For that alone, this talent deserves plenty of praise.
