In 2015, Manilow made public his long-time relationship with his manager, Gary Kief. The two met in 1978 and then started a relationship. Manilow and Kief managed to keep their 40-year relationship private as Manilow explained that he does not want his fans to get upset about it. They got married in 2014 after same-sex marriage became legal. Before being with Kief, Manilow was married to his high school sweetheart and sought their lawyer’s help when they parted ways after a year of marriage. Manilow further clarified that their separation was not due to his sexuality, but because he decided to focus on his blossoming career.
