Mom | CBS | Ending after Season 8
Mom is an American sitcom, which is the brainchild of Chuck Lorre, Gemma Baker, and Eddie Gorodetsky, airing its first season back in September of 2013. The show starred Allison Janney and Anna Farris alongside the likes of Kaime Pressly, Mimi Kennedy, and Beth Hall, among others. Much to the credit of the writers and producers, the show has received a degree of critical acclaim, which earned Janney two consecutive Emmy Awards both in 2014 and 2015.
The series follows the story of the mother-daughter duo of Bonnie and Christy Plunkett as they try to rebuild their relationship, having been estranged due to their alcoholism. The sitcom has been lauded for tackling real-life issues such as teen pregnancy, alcoholism, drug abuse, and homelessness, among many others. Sadly, the production took a turn for the worst, when in September of 2020, Farris announced her departure from the show. Shortly after, CBS announced that it is calling it quits and will not continue with the sitcom for a 9th season.
