BARNEY MARTIN

Barney Martin is an American actor, comedy writer and New York City Police Department, detective. He is known for playing Jerry’s father Morty Seinfeld in the sitcom Seinfeld. Prior to his acting career, Barney Martin was an NYPD officer for about two decades. Once he served as a stand-in for the equally hefty Jackie Gleason. His career transformation into acting saw him starring as Jerry’s dad in the sitcom, Steinfeld, and films and shows like Arthur 1 and 2, Sydney, Daddy Dearest, 21 Jump Street and The Odd Couple.

Following a diagnosis for lung cancer, Barney commenced treatment for the ailment which probably prolonged his life some more. Sadly, the cancer won the battle as death claimed him in 2005 at the age of 82. Thankfully, Barney never visited a drug or alcohol rehab in his lifetime and no need for a bankruptcy attorney.
